Cooked Aqiqah — £25 Extra
You can choose to have the Aqiqah meat cooked before it is distributed. This allows vulnerable families and individuals to receive a freshly prepared meal.
Aqiqah Pack With Sadaqah — £20 Extra
Add Sadaqah on behalf of your child. This option is inspired by the Sunnah practice of giving the value of the weight of the newborn child’s shaved hair in silver to those in need.
What Is Aqiqah in Islam?
Aqiqah in Islam is the sacrifice of an eligible animal in gratitude to Allah following the birth of a child. It is an important Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and provides an opportunity to welcome the newborn, thank Allah and share food with others.
Aqiqah brings together several meaningful acts:
- Thanking Allah for the blessing of a newborn child
- Following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
- Sacrificing a suitable animal in accordance with Islamic guidelines
- Sharing meat or cooked meals with family members and people in need
- Giving the child a good name
- Shaving the baby's hair and giving charity based on its weight in silver
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that two sheep should be offered for a boy and one for a girl. This guidance is recorded in Jami' at-Tirmidhi 1516.
Aqiqah is generally regarded as a highly encouraged Sunnah for parents or guardians who can afford it. Families who are unable to perform it should not place themselves under financial hardship.
Aqiqah, Aqeeqah and Aqeeqa: Is There a Difference?
There is no religious difference between Aqiqah, Aqeeqah and Aqeeqa. They are simply different English spellings of the Arabic word عقيقة.
Aqiqah is the most frequently used English spelling, while many Muslim families from the UK, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and other countries use Aqeeqah or Aqeeqa.
Whichever spelling you use, the meaning remains the same: an animal sacrifice offered in gratitude to Allah following the birth of a child.
